This week on the train I was fortunate enough to listen to BBC Radio Four's guest the British author Jonathan Coe on his new novel; which is for him a new departure, a 'murder-mystery'. It begins as 'cosy crime', a genre he takes back to stories like Sherlock Holmes, and Agatha Christie's Miss Marple, and continues in another vein. Enjoy! This is a major writer of our times.
I would also recommend another of his novels, as often about the state of modern Britain, and the wrecking ball of the 1980s: What a Carve Up!:
